Marriage equality is something that’s been an issue in Australia for way too long. I’ve attached myself to the issue over the last six months for a multitude of reasons. Probably my biggest inspiration is my nephews. Having them brought into the world has definitely inspired me to fight more vigorously for the things I believe in; equality in all areas being something I am very passionate about. Whilst writing on this topic, I have found it really difficult to source imagery to accompany my words. This in itself is an issue and it is why I recently reached out to Lauren Campbell. Her images encapsulate love, nothing more and nothing less. Relationships are a scary commitment, and anyone that can overcome the constant barriers that appear, deserve the respect to marry the one they choose to spend the rest of their lives with.

Lauren's opinion on current marriage laws in Australia:

"It is heartbreaking that I even get to have an opinion on this issue - because for me it is very simple: anyone who thinks you can choose who you love has obviously never been in love.

When I think back to my own wedding day, I still remember cringing when the celebrant had to read out the definition of marriage in Australia quote and it still baffles me that our country is so far behind so much of the world. Love is love, and love deserves equality. That's as simple as it should be.

Unfortunately, this has evolved into an issue where staying silent is letting a vocal minority have a cruel and unfair influence over the legal rights and dignity of our fellow human beings. The fact that anyone thinks they have a right to an opinion on legally recognising something that doesn't affect them in the slightest way, is proof that something is broken. I believe in marriage equality because I believe in tolerance, acceptance, justice, and love.

As a wedding photographer I am so lucky to be able to witness & document the union of wonderful couples in love every week. That's a huge honour, and it's something I will continue to treasure, no matter who you are or who you love."
