IT-ITEMS FOR THIS SPRING
I don’t know if you guys know, but holy sh*t, it’s already August. 2017 has flown by with a surprisingly minimal amount of hindrances (touch wood), and we’re fast approaching spring and summer – and with that comes wardrobe changes for comfort, and planning to look generally as hot as the weather is. Here, I’ve compiled the staple items you basically NEED to have in your wardrobe as 2017 comes to a close. It’s not an option, sorry.
1. An extra-wide brim straw hat
Yes, the trend of wide-brim hats and fedoras has long been a staple of most beach looks, but there’s a new beast in town – the EXTRA-wide brim, non-floppy hat. Made popular by brands like Jacquemus and seen on it-girls like Kendall Jenner, it’s pretty much a beach must-have – albeit, maybe not to this extreme. (Image: instagram.com/jacquemus)
2. White Reebok Classic Sneakers
2017 has seen a fair few it-sneaker trends come and go – we see you, Vans Old Skool – and the Reebok Classic is pretty much a SHOE-in (wow I hate myself) to be the next. They’ve been under the radar for decades, but, now spruiked by the likes of Gigi Hadid, these puppies are well and truly back in action; not to mention, they can be paired with literally ANY summer items of clothing.
3. A bold BABY BAG
2017 is also definitely proving to be the year of the baby bag. Having once thought that baby bags were useless and impractical, I realised I was completely missing the point – who cares about practicality when you look to DIE for? (Although, you may be in a bit of trouble if you own a huge phone.) Gucci, Mansur Gavriel and J.W. Anderson have all been making bomb ass mini bags that would be perfect for spring, but more affordable options are easily found at Cos and Zara – just make sure to pick yours out in a bold finish and unforgettable style.
4. Ridiculously small sunglasses
What’s spring without another obscene sunglass trend? Meet the ridiculously small sunglass, something that you’ll undoubtedly look back on in 10 years and think ‘what was I DOING!’ But who cares? With practicality well and truly out the window, you can’t deny that super small sunglasses look super fierce. Here, Bella Hadid wears her favourites from brand Roberi & Fraud. 5. Cult Gaia straw bag
We saw it all over Instagram during European summer, but now, it’s Australia’s turn. Cult Gaia's most popular bag is a practical and sturdy must-have for spring, and eventually summer – honestly, who cares if the contents of your bag are on display for the whole world to see? 6. Shiny white booties of some description
There was once a time, many years ago, when nobody bought or wore white boots. Yet, alas, people finally snapped to their senses and realised how good a pair of shiny white boots look with baggy mum jeans, or with a billowy summer dress. They're versatile as f**k and a total look. (Image: instagram.com/stuartweitzman)
