Meet Ruelle

You've probably heard them on your favourite TV show.

"Ruelle" is an electronic alternative/ pop group that includes Maggie Eckford, a Mississippi born alternative singer/ songwriter and her associate producers. I would describe their style as Lorde meets X Ambassdors. Their most recent releases include an acoustic version of 'Monsters' (above) and 'Rival' (2017) which features 'The Other Side'. (below)

Their songs are heavily featured on popular TV shows like 'The Walking Dead', 'How To Get Away With Murder', 'Pretty Little Liars', 'The Vampire Diaries', 'Teen Wolf' and 'Guilt' (plus heaps of others like 'Grey's Anatomy').

However, Ruelle is most well known for their songs 'Until We Go Down' (which is the opening theme for 'The Shannara Chronicles') which they re- released in collaboration with 'Listenbee', 'Monsters' (which has been featured on the much loved/hated Shadowhunters and Scream: The TV Series) and 'This is The Hunt', which is the opening theme for 'Shadowhunters' (great song, horrible show) . Their song 'Game of Survival' was also featured on the 'Thirteen Reasons Why' trailer.

Ruelle's vocalist, Maggie Eckford, released her EPs 'Show and Tell' and 'For What It's Worth' under her birth name in 2012 and 2010 respectively. (The song 'For What It's Worth' was featured on 'Degrassi', and a few others from these albums have been featured on TV shows as well, such as 'The Originals'.)

Since becoming Ruelle, the group has released several singles and two EPs 'Madness' (2016) and 'Up in Flames' (2015) . I will include tracklists for these at the bottom of this article.

Maggie, the vocalist for Ruelle actually attended music school here in Sydney, which is pretty cool. They now operate from Nashville.

I was introduced to their music last year through watching 'The Shannara Chronicles' (although I realised I had heard them on 'Scream: The TV Series' and the unfortunate mess that is 'Shadowhunters' before).

Their sound is really unique and honestly just really cool. The lyrics of their songs are quite dark and generally about survival/ triumph/ power. Maggie's vocals are a weird combo of Lorde's husky sound but a bit more haunting, and the music is dynamic and awesome.

You can listen to Ruelle on Apple Music and Spotify.
